The Weck brand name has been highly regarded in the preserving world since 1900, bringing German precision engineering to the more domestic world of canning and preserving. The company was founded by one Johann Weck, a vegetarian and strict teetotaller who wanted to encourage turn of the century housewives to preserve fruit without alcohol. However you don't have to follow the temperate lifestyle to enjoy preserving; jams, pickles, chutneys, curds, pates, jellies and marmalades are all easy and great fun to make at home. You only need a few ingredients and some basic pieces of equipment, including jars.
Weck jar clips are used to create a vacuum seal when preserving, rendering the jars completely airtight to keep the contents at their best. If your jars are not made airtight, bacteria can enter and spoil your precious preserves, but the Weck jar system is not only practical - it also looks good! The system combines both form and function, style and substance.
Weck jars are a high quality German product and the system includes glass jars and lids, rubber ring seals and metal clips or clamps to hold the lids on to the jars. Each jar requires two clips to create a proper seal so this set of 12 clips will fit six jars. Fill the jars with preserves while still warm and use the clips to secure the sealing ring and glass lid onto the jar. Once the jar has cooled, the clips can be removed and the glass lid will be held on by a vacuum effect created by reduced air pressure in the jar.
